As you may know Mike Rogers is an almost fourteen year Republican veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives from Michigan’s 8th congressional district. Mr. Rogers is in a solid Republican district so he could have expected to stay in office forever if he wanted. But he chose to announce his retirement about a month before the registration process closed for the Michigan primary this year.

It was announced that he was going to become a talk show host, so I suspect that his $174,000 annual congressional salary is chump change compared to what he expects to make.

These things happen all of the time. A congressperson leverages his or her contacts for a sweet position after they have left office. That’s after having done favors for all types of companies while in office so they can feather their nests. One hand washes the other.

In this instance Rogers is also the Chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence since 2011, a very powerful and responsible position as our nation is in perpetual wars and this is an important job.

And yet, Rogers decided to become a talk show host right in the middle of our conflicts. Why? Could it be the money, and that his series of political positions were all geared to making the big bucks?

Does he hope to make millions and then get a nice cushy job in a future Republican administration?

I have frequently said that our politicians are most interested in themselves first, special interests and large donors next and finally the public. They are at the end of the list. Am I missing something? Does the public care?
